Garuda Indonesia has introduced a new sub-branded carrier to strengthen its domestic flight network, in anticipation of ASEAN’s 2015 Open Sky policy.
The ‘Explore’ brand will support Garuda’s national connectivity program by servicing growing economic regions and tourist destinations in remote areas of Indonesia.
Turboprop aircraft (ATR72-600), with a seat capacity for 70 passengers, will be utilised on new routes serving eastern Indonesia.
Garuda Indonesia will receive 35 ATR72-600 in stages up to 2017, accompanied by firm orders for 25 aircraft and options for an additional 10 aircraft.
Garuda have been operating ‘Explore Jet’ since October last year, serving the airline’s network in both eastern and western Indonesia aboard Bombardier CRJ1000 NextGen aircraft.
